Don't go crazy with geo-targeting. If you are doing an event, post about it to all of your followers. If you have genuine fans, people in city A will tag friends in city B with a line like, "You should check this out."
In terms of getting the attention of people who do not already follow you, I have found that hashtags are:
• Effective on Instagram • Occasionally useful on Twitter • Pointless on Facebook For any social media platform, you can't really count on users going to your page. For many people, if it does not show up in their feed, it does not exist.
I have looked at the stats for a number of native videos on various Facebook accounts. Whether the video is live or recorded, one minute long or one hour long, the average watch time is 15 seconds.
Content developed with Carrie Charlick of clients Essential Bodywear...
"What's something that you learned through building this business that was a bit of a surprise?" Carrie: You know, I knew that women struggled with their self-image. I didn't know how much. That was really eye-opening, how women are so hard on themselves. Not just with their image, but with everything. Being perfect. These women … they're moms, they're wives, they're businesswomen … and they try to do everything. And how much they struggle with being perfect in all of those categories. I knew it was going on, but I didn't know the depth of it. We are really hard on ourselves. We want to do 200% on every single job. From my interview with Alex Ryan of clients Evolve Solutions Group...
"Very rarely do people think about hiring the right people when they’re building a team. They think about hiring the right skills, the right number of years of experience, but not necessarily the right people. "Anyone building a team, reorganizing, or handling post-merger or acquisition team alignment will think, 'What skills do I need? And can I get or do I have the bodies to fill that need?' "Yes, skills are important, and having a pool of candidates or resources to choose from helps, but it is just a small piece of the puzzle. "Start by thinking about the right mindset, intangible skills, inherent capabilities and relatable industries and experience." Ads that you run on the right column of Facebook are not seen by people using a mobile device nor by people using a laptop with an ad blocker on their browser.
A question multiple clients asked: How come when I release a new video, I get great video view numbers on Facebook, but much lower numbers on YouTube?
Most people do not change their Facebook default setting. As a result, when they are scrolling through their newsfeed and come across a video, it starts playing automatically on mute. If a video plays for just three seconds – even with the sound off – Facebook counts this as a view. So if you pause your newsfeed scroll to read a post and right below that is a post with a video playing, even though you are not looking at it or hearing it, Facebook counts that as a view. If you are scrolling through your newsfeed, come to a video that starts playing automatically, and then look away from your computer or phone to talk to someone, Facebook counts that as a view. If you are looking at Facebook, set your phone down next to you on the couch, and your cat steps on the screen moving the newsfeed to a video that starts playing, Facebook counts that as a view. Video can make for great social media content, but the view numbers mean nothing. Social media is still a good way to publish your content. But as this investigation by the New York Times shows, the stats mean nothing.
Example: Kathy Ireland has one million followers on Twitter. Research suggests only 160,000 of those are real people. In numerous cases followers, likes, shares, retweets, YouTube views, etc. have been bought. What is funny is that big brands have paid people to promote products based on these fake follower numbers. It's like paying someone to pitch your product to his imaginary friends. |
